Warning! If you are considering buying a subscription to any magazine from amazon, be very wary.

I did this, and what a drama! I ordered a gift subscription online, and the gift pack (not the actual magazine) arrived at the recipient’s address. So far, so good. The instructions were to visit a third party sight (Great Magazines, who look after this particular magazine; I’ll now refer to them as Great incompetence magazines) and enter a code which was supplied with the gift pack. However, when filling out the delivery address section, there was no field to indicate which country. Great incompetence magazines were contacted about the problem, but nobody there seemed to know anything about my order. They then asked for the my address which I emailed them. About a week later they then asked for the date of purchase, which I sent them straight away. Another week went by and another email asking for the amazon order number (You may have noticed a trend here; 1 email per week). In the meantime I contacted amazon about this, and their attitude was to contact the supplier i.e. Great incompetence magazines. That must be the worst service ever.. I buy a product from amazon, a problem occurs with the delivery and they tell me to sort it out with their supplier.. absolutely appalling service. So finally Great incompetence magazines emails me telling me that they don’t ship to my country. This debacle took 3 months to unfold. I won’t be buying anything from amazon uk ever again and suggest to anyone considering a magazine subscription not to either.. just go down to your local magazine shop and save yourself the bother.

I purchased this for a Christmas present. It’s now the 18th of Feb and we still haven’t received the first copy! The code was invalid and after a few phone calls they said they’d get it delivered but it’s not happened yet…

Oh dear, what a disaster! Amazon selling good past their sell-by-date.

My dear sister bought this off of my wish list by way of a birthday present for me. It arrived within a few days in a fancy box (as illustrated on Amazon) with the re-assuring words “see inside for your ‘step-by-step’ activation guide”. Well the box was empty!

So, my little sister wrote to Amazon and a replacement duley arrived today. I opened the box and was pleasantly surprised to find a card with an activation code! So I hop on the web to initiate my subscription and get an error message saying that my details (none entered at this stage) do not match their records!

So a call to their customer support line (the card states 0845 126 3333 but, rather than pay the premium line rates to correct a problem, I found the external number 01858 438806). There was a very polite lady at the other end, but said she could not help and that I would need to post the code to them (technology eh, who would believe it!).

Anyway, my dear wife then does what I often fail to do, and reads the terms and conditions…..now to put this into context, it is now March 11 2010…..the Ts&Cs state “You must activate your magazine subscription before 31st December 2008″

So, someone selling goods well past their sell by date!

    Barge poles come to mind
